Legends of the Christmas Tree!

Many legends exist about the origin of the Christmas tree. One is the story of Saint Boniface, an English monk who organized the Christian Church in France and Germany. One day, as he traveled about, he came upon a group of pagans gathered around a great oak tree about to sacrifice a child to the god Thor. To stop the sacrifice and save the child's life Boniface felled the tree with one mighty blow of his fist. In its place grew a small fir tree. The saint told the pagan worshipers that the tiny fir was the Tree of Life and stood the eternal life of Christ.

Another legend holds that Martin Luther, a founder of the Protestant faith, was walking through the forest one Christmas Eve. As he walked he was awed by the beauty of millions of stars glimmering through the branches of the evergreen trees. So taken was he by this beautiful sight that he cut a small tree and took it home to his family. To recreate that same starlight beauty he saw in the wood, he placed candles on all its branches.

Yet another legend tells of a poor woodsman who long ago met a lost and hungry child on Christmas Eve. Though very poor himself, the woodsman gave the child food and shelter for the night. The woodsman woke the next morning to find a beautiful glittering tree outside his door. The hungry child was really the Christ Child in disguise. He created the tree to reward the good man for his charity.
Others feel the origin of the Christmas tree may be the "Paradise Play." In medieval times most people could not read and plays were used to teach the lessons of the bible all over Europe. The Paradise Play, which showed the creation of man and the fall of Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden was performed every year on December 24th. The play was performed in winter creating a slight problem. An apple tree was needed but apple trees do not bare fruit in winter so a substitution was made. Evergreens were hung with apples and used instead.

Another story comes from Germany about spiders and Christmas trees. Long ago families allowed their animals to come inside and view the Christmas trees on Christmas Eve. Because the Christ Child was born in a stable, they felt that the animals should take part in the Christmas celebration. But spiders weren’t allowed because housewives didn't want cobwebs all over everything. of course the spiders were unhappy about this, so one year they complained to the Christ Child. He felt sorry for them and decided that late at night He would let them in to see the trees. The excited spiders loved the Christmas trees and all night long they crawled about in the branches, leaving them covered with webs. On Christmas morning the housewives saw what the spiders had done. But instead of being angry, they were delighted. For in the night the Christ Child had turned all of the cobwebs into sparkling tinsel. And even today, tinsel is often used to decorate Christmas trees to add that same sparkle the Christ Child gave the cobwebs long ago, in Germany.

Helloween story! Look at your shoes! What do you see? Zip – fastener. No. Shoe – lacer. What do you mean by it? Yes, simply a shoe – lace – a thing to lace up boots. But someone grasps it in an other way. One day. If to be exact on Halloween night one boy dressed a costume of a big boot. He was going home with a full bag of sweets and was very glad. He lived in a big block of flats on the 15th floor. In the doorway was to dark so he could see nothing. But nevertheless somebody was there. The boy even didn’t have time to press on lift’s button but he door opened themselves. A friendly looking man standed inside. He was worn perfectly and had black patent shoes. - Do you like your costume? – asked a man with a cold smile. - Yeas, of course! I made it myself, - answered a happy boy. - But your boot doesn’t have strings and has dirty look – said a stranger dissatisfiedly. - It’s just a fruit of my imagination. - Besides this I hate shoes – lace. It’s too hard to lace up your shoes every morning and simply a wasting of time. And shoe – string boots look too old – fashionably today. - No. You are wrong now, but you’ll never repeat this mistake – prounced a perfect man loudly. How to reduce stress! As to my own opinion, I think it is difficult and almost impossible to prevent a stress situation. Because there is a long chain of factors which causes a stress: hormonal infringements, an irregular food, sleep deficit, a lot of work and information all these factors lead to psychological overload. So sometimes the main cause of stress is a chronic weariness. The first step of overcoming of stress, as to me, is a change of conditions, It is necessary for you to go out of town, walk on the nature, listen to singing of birds, breathe a fresh air. The second step is relaxation with listening to quiet music. Talk to a person you trust the most. From his or her side your problem will be not so serious. In the process of conversation some excellent ideas can appear in your head. If you do not have such a person address to the expert - psychologist. Anyway all told by you will leave between you. One more way is making of problems’ list and to solving them in process of importance.

Motivation for learning English First of all I agree that learning English requires action. Your motivation of learning depends of courses why you are studding foreign language. I think you will succeed well when you will enjoy of learning English. Somebody received a satisfaction of studding process and someone gets pleasure of Result of language mastering. I agree that enjoyment leads to better memory. I like the viewpoint of imagining yourself in the future. Of course, you can change your profession and it will be connect with foreign economy. As to me the best motivation is a desire to receive a more prestige job and more high salary because today one of the main requirement to the worker is knowing of foreign language at least English. Of course, you will learn English more effectively if you feel responsibility before your self and desire to self-development. A great motivation for studding foreign language (English) is for travelling, making new friends or residence change. The best way is to plunge into the environment of native speaking or to communicate the acquaintance which knows English perfectly. All depends on the purpose for which you study foreign language. As to the teacher , I consider, you mustn't take an overwork of class teacher and superfluous hours in money pursuit. Because overload on job will lower efficiency of your work, will raise annoyance, you became constantly nervous, appear a chronic weariness and quarrels in family . You should use your free time between lessons for the rest. Simply go for a small walk and breath a fresh air. You must learn from the begging of teacher's career to subdivide school children problems and your own ones and not transfer your mother's feelings on somebody. Finally, you ought to fulfill all your tasks in worktime and do not take something to finish at home in any case. You must develop constantly, so read new educational magazines and books, make nonstandard lessons e.g. in park. And of course your lessons must be interesting and practical for pupils and you. Who are you?

My name is Nicka Nemilostivaya. I am 21.

Where do you live?

 I live in Kerch, the Crimea, Ukraine.

Where do you study?

Now I’m a student of the 6 course of the English language department where we study English, German, Ukrainian and Latin little. Russian is my native. But I’d like to know Chinese. I have just a bachelor diploma.

So you know English well? How did you learn English?

Mm… To tell the truth, I didn’t learn English at school with pleasure or an especial eagerness. But in the institute I understood that I must be serious to my future profession. So I decided to make learning English interesting for me. I started to watch films in English with subtitles. And now I continue to see films without translation.

I like music very mush so it accompanies me everywhere. At home I listen to the music on computer all day. Usually I listen to songs of foreign executors.  Sometimes I switch on my walkman so I can learn English even in the street at any time.

In the cool evenings I prefer to read original books. Also I try to learn poems and perform declamation in front of the mirror to make my pronunciation better.

I, as all modern youth like to sit in internet, and very often I see interesting headlines or photos, click on it, read interesting facts and also learn new words simply from titles.

But the most effective method, I think, is an immersing in the English-speaking environment, for example, receiving an education in England or with the help of the program of an exchange of students.

 So, that is my main secrets!

 What has English given you?

English gave me a possibility to make new acquaintances and new friends not only in Kerch or Ukraine but even in the whole world. I have some pen friends and try to communicate with them often. In such way I improve my writing English.

One more thing that English thought me is a skill of quick writhing on keyboard, so now I can become a writer or a good secretary.

English gives to me more possibilities to get interesting and prestige job. But mainly, English makes my life brightly! People are delighted when know that I will graduate of foreign philology faculty next year.
